This sterling silver charoite ring by Navajo jeweler Bill "Mex" Dineh showcases masterful integration of this rare and striking gemstone. Dineh's hallmark authenticates his work as a respected artisan within the Navajo jewelry tradition. Charoite's distinctive purple hues and complex patterns demand exceptional skill to cut and set effectively, demonstrating Dineh's technical expertise and artistic vision.
Charoite is a relatively new stone, being first discovered by a Russian geologist in 1948 between the Chara and Tokko Rivers in the Siberia region of Russia. This is still the only place in the world it is found. It was not until 1977 that Charoite was scientifically identified as a mineral and gemstone and was named Charoite after the Chara river.
The piece reflects authentic Navajo craftsmanship and cultural knowledge passed through generations of metalworkers. A significant work that honors indigenous heritage while celebrating the artisan's ability to transform rare materials into wearable art of distinction.
